Text: Hosea 2:16 (ESV)

And in that day, declares the Lord, you will call me ‘My Husband,’ and no longer will you call me ‘My Baal.’

Main Message

  • God’s love for the Israelites extends to us, God did not choose us because of our accomplishments, our image, our standing in society, God choose us because he loves us.

  • It’s like falling in love with someone, sometimes you can’t explain why you love that person. All you know is that you love him or her.

  • Beloved - A term of endearment used to describe someone who is deeply loved and cherished. It’s like calling someone, Mahal.

  • I am Dearly Loved

  • Colossians 3:12 (ESV) - Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.

  • You are dearly loved by God. Gomer was dearly loved by Hosea, Israel was dearly loved by God.

  • These are exalted titles formerly used as designations for the nation of Israel (Deut. 4:37; 7:7–8) but now applied to the new community in Christ (1 Pet. 2:9–10).

  • I am Accepted

  • Ephesians 1:5-6 (NLT) - God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. 6 So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.

  • God called you his beloved, and adopted you into his family. Learn to face the fact that you are accepted and nobody can kick you out.

  • I am Complete

  • Colossians 2:9-10 (NLT) - For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. 10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ.

  • To be complete means you are NOT incomplete. It is the state of having every necessary or normal part or component or step.

  • Colossians 2:6-7 (ESV) - Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

  • 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 (ESV) - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God.

  • God gave us a new us when we say I do to Christ. He made us complete and the old incomplete us no longer exist.

  • But it is not easy to forget our old incomplete and broken self, we missed our old self from time to to time. That is why Paul is telling us to be rooted and built up in Christ.

Reflection Questions:

1.  How do you feel knowing that you are beloved by God? In what ways can you show God and honor being betroth to Him.

2. Have you accepted that you are accepted by God, accepted into His family? What is hindering you from believing that you are accepted by God not matter what you past is.
