Text:

Job 38:1-7  (ESV)

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said: “Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?  Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me. “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone,  when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

Job 40:1-2 (ESV)

And the Lord said to Job:  “Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.”

Job 42:1-6 (ESV)

Then Job answered the Lord and said:  “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’ Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand,

things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. ‘Hear, and I will speak; I will question you, and you make it known to me.’ I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear,  but now my eye sees you; therefore I despise myself,  and repent in dust and ashes.”

Main Message

  • Humanity’s pride and self-will disrupt the divine order, but through surrender, repentance, and humility, we can restore the Creator-creature relationship.

  •  We need to recognize the Divine Order: God as Creator, Humanity as Creature

  • Sin has introduced complications in our life and in this world and can turn the good things God created into something that harms our soul.

  • The first step to restoring that relationship is to put God in his rightful place above ourselves in our rightful place beneath.

  • The Path to Restoration: God’s Initiative, our surrender & repentance

  • Tozer says “God will take nine steps toward us, but He will not take the tenth. He will incline us to repent, but He cannot do our repenting for us.”
  • The path to restoration is initiated by God’s grace but requires our humble repentance.
  • The moment we decide to put God above everything else, we choose to step away from the patterns and values of the world.

  • We must choose to live in humility and worship, DAILY

  • A life of worship flows from recognizing our dependence on God.

  • Living in restored relationship requires daily humility, trust, and obedience to God’s will.

  • Live a Romans 12 Life.

  • Practical Steps:

    • Daily Surrender: Reflect on God’s sovereignty and your dependence on Him.

    • Worship with Awe: Psalm 95 6-7 calls us to joyful worship, acknowledging God as “the Shepherd of His people.”

    • Guard Against Pride: Examine and acknowledge your heart for areas of self-will and submit them to God.

Conclusion

After Job repents, God restores his relationship, showing that God desires reconciliation and fellowship. While Job’s story reveals God’s mercy, it ultimately points to Christ as THE restorer of the Creator-creature relationship. Jesus reconciles us to God through His sacrifice, making restoration possible.

Challenge

Will you surrender your pride, restore God to His rightful place in your heart, and live in humble obedience to Him?

Invitation: Join Job in saying, “Surely I spoke of things I did not understand” (Job 42:3), and let Psalm 95’s invitation lead you: “Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.”
