Text: Psalm 23:1  (ESV)

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Main Message

  • Psalm 23 is one of the best loved Psalms in the Bible as it reflects David’s confidence in God by declaring that God is his shepherd.

  • Sheep Go Astray

    • Isaiah 53:6 (ESV) - All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way.

    • No matter where you’ve strayed, your Shepherd will look for you and all we have to do is follow the voice of Jesus calling us.

  • Sheep Need Guidance

    • Wisdom - the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement; the quality of being wise.

    • Psalm 25:4-5 (ESV) - Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.

  • Sheep Are Valuable

    • When you feel overlooked or undervalued, see your value through your Shepherd’s eye.

    • John 10:14-15 (ESV) - I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How does each quality of God’s character show up in your life? How do these qualities make you feel safe? How do they affirm that you are not alone?

  2. List times when you have stray away from God. How did you find your way back to God?

  3. Now that you know you are valuable in the eye of God, how do you respond to God’s grace and mercy?
