Text: Psalm 23:5 (ESV)​

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Main Message​​​​

The Hebrew word for surely can be translated in English as “certainly”, “surety”, “truly”, “absolutely.”
-
Goodness means that which is pleasing, valuable or useful.
-
Mercy means compassion, a disposition to be kind and forgiving, and showing great kindness.
-
Follow means to pursue, chase, and attend closely upon.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

David is saying that only what is valuable, pleasing, useful, beneficial, and for our good will follow us all the days of our lives.

Psalm 34:8 (ESV) - Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!

David in his Psalm is inviting us to experience God’s goodness.

And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever
-
David is looking forward to his final destination, and that is heaven.
-
God invites us to dwell in His house forever. We will dwell with Him in heaven someday, but while we are on earth, let us enjoy the presence of God.

Forever has already started. You are dwelling right now in His house, in His presence.
