The Shepherd Calls You His
Week 5 - Your Shepherd Calls You His

Text: Psalm 23:5 (ESV)

You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Main Message

-
Lo-debar = “not a pasture”. A barren and dried land.
-
Just like Mephibosheth, we are living in isolation in our own Lo-debar, a dry not green pasture land.
-
Just like David looked for Mephibosheth to bless him and fulfill the covenant he signed with Jonathan, God is also looking for us so he can fulfill the covenant he signed with us, the covenant that Jesus mediated for us.

-
Your Shepherd Prepared a Table for You
-
God’s table is a place of blessing, favor, and communion.
-
Blessing - God is capable of supplying all your needs.
-
Favor - act of kindness
-
A table is place of communion.
-

-
Your Shepherd Anoints You
-
When God anoints you with oil, He is honoring you with the bounty of His blessings.
-
He is reminding you once again that He chose you, He protects you, and He calls you His own—you belong to your Shepherd King.
-

-
Your Cup Overflows
-
David is saying, that our cup will overflow, that is, we lack nothing.
-
Trust in God that he will provide.
-
Reflection Questions:

-
Lo-debar means not in green pasture. Are you living in Lo-debar right now? What is your Lo-debar?
-
What are ways you can enjoy dining in God’s table?
-
How have you responded to God’s invitation to dine with him at his table?
