Job Summary
The Lead Pastor is responsible for carrying out Good Shepherd Community Church’s (GSCC) mission of cultivating devoted followers of Jesus Christ within our community and for modeling GSCC’s vision of being passionate for God and for others. They will serve as the primary teacher who will preach and explain the Word of God to wide-range audiences, and they will serve as the primary leader who will plan, organize, and grow GSCC both spiritually and in number. The Lead Pastor is to embody the qualities outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and is to exemplify the role of servant leader.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Preaching and teaching: The Lead Pastor will prepare and preach inspiring Sunday sermons a majority of the year, create preaching schedules, and assign Sunday sermons to other pastors and speakers throughout the year. The Lead Pastor will identify and develop lesson plans and learning materials for small groups and ministries.

Discipleship and mentoring: The Lead Pastor will disciple new and seasoned Christians, mentor others along their personal walk with Jesus Christ, and train up future leaders and pastors of the church.

Counseling and visitation: The Lead Pastor will visit members in times of need, including when members are sick, shut-in, or bereaved, and will provide counseling to members who have personal, family, or work-related problems. The Lead Pastor will officiate service requests for dedications, baptisms, weddings, funerals, and other related events.

Church leadership, planning, and oversight of ministries: The Lead Pastor will work with the Board of Elders (BOE) to identify the overall direction of the church and to develop short and long-term objectives for GSCC. The Lead Pastor will oversee the different ministries, ensure they are aligned with the church’s objectives, and work with church leaders to plan, carry out, and grow their respective ministry.
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Directly planning and organizing church events and activities.

Leading and facilitating congregational and ministry meetings.

Participating in new member recruitment and outreach activities, whether at a local, regional, national, or international level.

Representing GSCC at necessary business meetings regarding church affairs or matters.

Overseeing the upkeep and maintenance of church facilities and property.

Minimum Qualifications
-
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, and/or a degree from an accredited bible college, with a major in biblical studies or a related field. Alternatively, consideration will be given to candidates having experience and demonstrated proficiency in the field.

Experience: 3 years of service and/or leadership in church ministries and/or administrative committees.

Technical Knowledge and Skills: Proficiency in computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Expected Qualities
The Lead Pastor must be tried and proven in ministry, have a passion to share Jesus, and demonstrate a Christ-like attitude in words and actions. They must possess the gifts and skills of teaching, leading, and discipling, and they must exhibit excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills to be able to work with a diverse group of people. In addition, the Lead Pastor must be able to collaboratively solve problems, address issues in a professional manner, and maintain confidentiality when appropriate.

Must be able to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Success will be evaluated by the BOE in relevant areas including, but not limited to: identification and completion of church objectives and ministry goals, leadership, communication, teamwork, responsibility, self-motivation, and potential for growth.

About Good Shepherd Community Church
Good Shepherd Community Church was founded in 2005 with the objective of reaching out and sharing the Gospel to the local community and abroad. GSCC holds regular Sunday services, weekly ministry and small group sessions, and various events throughout the year. GSCC has 90 active members from throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, and about 40% of the congregation are children, youth, and young adults.
GSCC is located at 467 Sinclair Frontage Road, Milpitas, CA 95035.
